Torbole

In the Neolithic period we already have the first historical discoveries that document the existence of Torbole. In 1493 the Venetians, to have the naval dominance on Lake Garda, through the Valle del Cameràs with a fleet of 25 boats and 6 galleys, climbed the river Adige up to Mori, crossed the Loppio Lake up to the Lake of Garda, through the use of logs and oxen. After a first defeat in 1939, the Venetians defeated the Visconti in 1440 and succeeded in conquering Riva del Garda. This enterprise can be seen documented on the walls of the old road that leads from Nago to Torbole. During the First World War, like other towns in the area, Nago - Torbole was evacuated. In the second world war, all the countries of Trentino - Alto Adige became part of the Third Reich, afterwards, in 1958 it regained its autonomy.

The Church of S. Andrea, patron saint of fishermen, is located above the village of Torbole. The first mention of the chapel of S. Andrea is in a document dated 1175. It is also mentioned in a document dated 1183 by Pope Lucio III himself. Architectural features: the church was rebuilt in the late Baroque style after the devastation of the French troops of 1703, but earlier architectural elements were recovered (as evidenced by the dates 1496 and 1512 carved on the base of the two stone arches of the transept). the apse of the apse depicts the Martyrdom of St. Andrew, by the Veronese painter Giambettino Cignaroli (1706-1770). The various figures of the painting, very precise and realistic, seem to have been made using different models of Torbole as models. In the two side aisles there are two wooden statues of S. Giuseppe and the so-called Madonna Romani (named after the benefactor who donated it).

The valley connected with the ancient Roman road, active until the early eighteenth century, the valley of the Adige with Lake Garda. It winds through a centenary olive grove. The pass that the valley leads to the shores of the north of Lake Garda, was the scene of the Venetian galleys in the famous undertaking made by the Serenissima. Along its path the view dominates the entire Lake Garda, up to Sirmione.

It is a recently built nature trail, with a balcony overlooking Lake Garda, which connects Torbole to its village Tempesta, the ancient border between Austria and Italy. The walk is 4 km long, and proceeds halfway up Monte Baldo overlooking the lake, passing two ridges, the "Corno di Bò" and the "Salt de la Cavra". However, it is not possible to go mountain biking. The walking time is about an hour and 15 minutes.
